The item listed for auction is a "Bes God with Hieroglyphics" from the Ptolemaic Period (332-30B.C.). This Bes statuette was cast from clay. The Bes god is depicted here in a rotund squatting form with a full beard and a large phallus. On the reverse pillar there are two separated rows of downward hieroglyphics! This type of Bes veneration figurines were generally found in ancient Egyptian homes for protection or placed in the tomb as a possession for the afterlife. This rare Bes god piece with hieroglyphics is in good condition and has attributable age wear. Measures approximately: 6.5” in height, 3.25” in width and 2.0” in depth. In the last few centuries Egyptian archaeological discoveries were also available "to the highest bidder". They were removed from Egypt and were held in private collections worldwide.
