The above listed item is from the Ptolemaic Period,(332-30 B.C.E.). This rare "Winged Scarab" is carved from Stone. We acquired this very different item from a select private collection and its provenance is from Alexandria, Egypt. Depicted is a scarab with its wings extended with very elaborate designs carved onto the plumes. There is also a row of carved hieroglyphics and a cartouche at the front base of this scarab. This type of scarab was found in the tomb and may have been part of a sarcophagus or wall relief. The piece is intact with age wear. The reason for the item being available is due to the vast extent of archeological findings, thousands of years in Egyptian burials and also the proliferation of these said items in older private collections worldwide.
