Egyptian
Limestone Stelae. Attributed to the 19th dynasty, 1200 B.C. Four sets
of figures, the top register with two images of a pharaoh in the blue
war crown holding the shepherd scepter and the ankh, one accompanied
by the goddess Hathor the other by Maat, the scene divided by a lotus
plant representing Egypt and surmounted by the sun god Re as a winged
sun disk. The lower register of a servant, perhaps the nodor who commissioned
the stelae, divided by hieroglyphic inscription. There are four areas
of repair/stabilizing done by Pam Hatchfield at the Museum of Fine Arts
in Boston. The dimensions of this Stelae measure: 17 ½"
H x 12 1/8" W x 1" D.

Does anyone have any comments on this piece please? Did the buyer get
the deal of the century or was he burned for $3000?
G:
It's a fake. Most likely from the grand tour.
P:
To my advice, this piece is a crude fake : everything seems wrong on
it: the figure of the king ? with a khepresh crown, seating near by
an unidentified goddess, the strange position of is arm with the heqa-scepter,
even the shape of the lotus flower on the lower register. the hieroglyphic
inscription is a pure non-sense, combinating several offering formulae,
and not giving the name of the owner (instead of it, you have the formulae
"Hail to you, this god".

Pretty commonly encountered in the shops on the river boat route up
the Nile. and cost $100-$300 euros . and is not ancient.
